This Video Reminds Us Just How Important and Priceless Independence IsC. Dixon
For people with developmental disorders, levels of independence can vary drastically from person to person.
Even people with the same disorder, like autism, may have various levels of functioning. Some will perform daily tasks with ease, while others will need some assistance; and still others will need full-time assistance.
Their independence may also evolve as they get older. Brushing their teeth, cooking dinner, writing a letter, or even having a conversation — the difficulties of these tasks are not one-size-fits-all.
This video seeks to break stereotypes associated with developmental disorders in general, and it illustrates the importance of individual autonomy.
It may make you slightly uncomfortable at first — but do your best to stick through it because its message at the end is strong.
