Life can get very stressful at times for every single one of us, regardless of our circumstances. But when you’re both a mom and a business owner at the same time, the day-to-day grind can be especially taxing! That’s why it’s so important for every single one of us to stop for a few minutes every day to give ourselves the self-care we need.

One business woman and mom, Nisha, learned about that firsthand.

Nisha runs a restaurant called Coco Sala, which has a theme of coffee, chocolate, and cocktails (Yum! Sounds like my kind of place!). She is also the mom of two kids, one of whom is on the spectrum—that would be her son, Justin. He was diagnosed when he was in the sixth grade.

“Being a business owner, you have a million things going on in your head, and then on top of that to be a mother of two very active children, it’s a lot. It’s a lot to handle,” she said.

Nisha needed a way to de-stress. So she turned to the internet and stumbled across what’s called Transcendental Meditation.

Transcendental Meditation, or TM, is a form of meditation that has been verified by a number of studies. According to the TM website, it has been found to reduce stress and anxiety, increase brain function, and strengthen cardiovascular health. And it’s allegedly “absolutely effortless,” to the point where children with attention problems like ADHD can do it.

And it changed Nisha’s life. “Within the second day of learning TM,” she said, “I felt like a completely different person. I found myself much more focused, I found myself procrastinating less, and I found myself happier.”

In addition to learning it, herself, she also taught her son how to do it. And it had a similar effect on him, causing him to become much more relaxed. It even increased his degree of eye contact!
