Zackery’s Story: The Beauty of Life

My son Zackery was born in 2001. It was a hard pregnancy, and while I was in labor his heart rate dropped with every contraction. The doctor had to work fast to get him out, but when he was finally born, he was perfect in every way.

He grew like any normal child, and we didn’t notice anything wrong until his school tested him for autism. I cried, thinking I must have done something wrong for him to be this way, but later I realized I had done nothing wrong. God had made him this way for a reason, and I was blessed to have my special boy in my life.

Zackery is the most outgoing, loving, caring, giving, selfless, happiest child anyone could ever have the privilege of meeting. He sees things differently then we do; things in this world are beautiful through his eyes. He has shown me how to see things the way he does, and that’s a great gift. He has touched everyone who has been blessed to meet him, and I’m grateful every day that we have him in our lives.

Zackery has shown me that autism is not a disease but an ability to see the world as it truly is. Zackery is a gift, and I’m grateful for him every day. I know he’ll keep touching people’s lives in his special way, and the world will be a better place because Zackery is in it.
