Working with Asperger’s

Michael suffered from intense anxiety and stomach aches. It was affecting his work, so he went to his GP for insight. After speaking with him, she recommended a book for him to read, “The Curious Incident of the Dog and the Night-Time”, and asked him to come back after he’d read it. So he did just that — and quickly realized he was very much like the main character. He went back to his GP, and was diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome.

Michael says, “I have learned strategies to cope with Asperger’s syndrome. I try to live life as a kind of a performance, as an actor. So in order to cope with different situations, I’ve learned ways to act in the correct way, from observing other people. I look at how I’ve seen other people behave, and I try to adopt their way of behaving; sometimes from people in reality, sometimes from people on the television.”
