After Years Of Misdiagnoses In An Institution, Larry Was Rescued By His SisterC. Kramer
Locked up and institutionalized at 8 years old, Larry went through a variety of diagnoses, from intellectually disabled to schizophrenic.
Sadly, this is not an uncommon experience for many adults on the spectrum. He was eventually diagnosed with autism, but remained institutionalized until he was 20 years old — when his sister Sally rescued him from his confinement and brought him home to live with her.
Beforehand, he was physically abused and believed to be intellectually disabled (which was not actually the case).
Now he has his own sense of independence and contributes to Sally’s household.
Larry was also silent for over 30 years. But now, with the help of a communication device, Larry can speak — and he wants his voice to be heard.
He also creates beautiful art to express himself and explain his views on autism and society itself.
