This Ain’t Your Average Autism Myth-Busting Video!

In January 2017, Seriously.TV, a comedy news source, gave a young man on the spectrum a chance to shut down “BS” about autism. It was very similar to many of the myth-busting videos we have already shown you on The Autism Site Blog, so we decided not to feature it.

However, a few weeks later, a new “Shutting Down BS” about autism video came out—a result of people on the spectrum saying the previous video didn’t go as deeply into the subject as they would have liked.

In this new video—more or less “Shutting Down BS About Autism: Part 2″—four people with autism sit down and talk with Dylan Morron about myths, misconceptions, and other garbage they’re sick of hearing. And this one is a little bit different.

Some of the things these individuals have to say might make you uncomfortable—for example, their views on person-first versus identity-first language—but I think it’s vital that we listen to what they have to say. After all, they are the ones who are living with the disorder…shouldn’t they be the ones we listen to most closely?

Whether you agree with these individuals or not, be sure to check out the video and let us know what you think!
