What Is Love? A Man with Autism Has a Spectacular Answer

Contrary to what some believe, many people on the autism spectrum have a desire for love, romance, and relationships just like most anyone else. Due to social struggles, however, this can be a little tricky for them to find and maintain…but certainly not impossible.

Stephen and Geeta, who have been married for 20 years, are living proof of that. Stephen is on the autism spectrum, whereas Geeta is not.

The cute couple were featured in the PBS documentary, Autism in Love, which premiered in January of 2016. The documentary follows three separate stories: one of a young man who wants a girlfriend; one of a young, dating couple on the spectrum; and, of course, the one of Stephen and Geeta.

The premise of their story is a sad one: Geeta is battling terminal cancer. But this video clip is much more cheerful.

Watch as their wedding is showcased, and then listen to how Stephen describes his personal history with his wife. He may not show it in the same way neurotypical people do, but it’s clear by his sweet smile that he very much loves her.
