An Extraordinary Opportunity for Adults with Autism

A non-profit out of Chapel Hill called Extraordinary Ventures is giving a unique opportunity to people with autism and other developmental disabilities: EV creates small businesses for the purpose of employing people with ASD. Some of the businesses they currently run include a laundry facility, a scented product manufacturing company, an event center, and an office solutions business. Van Hatchell, managing director of the venture, says that their purpose is to try to “break down the stereotypes in the community of what can somebody do, and create value.” The company is striving to create meaningful jobs for people on the spectrum who may have difficulty finding work elsewhere, so that they have a way to create more meaning and direction in their daily life after they leave high school.
