If your child has a special pet, a service animal, or any other sort of therapy animal, you probably know just how amazing and impactful animals (of just about any species!) can be on the lives of people with special needs.

Maya is one girl who also knows that firsthand: she has been touched by a little dog with a big heart. That dog’s name is Jack.

Jack is an adorable, loving terrier mix with an amazing story. He was abandoned in a dumpster, but he was soon rescued and placed in a home with Maya’s loving family.

Since then, he has become a special, lifesaving companion for the little girl with a rare neurological disorder. He is incredibly in-tune to her and intuitive. For example, he can detect her seizures, even before they start!

Along with being somewhat of an “alert” dog, Jack is also Maya’s special companion. Because of him, she has a friend and is talking more.
